1840: Restrict firearm possession for persons subject to a restraining order
Friends, The Washington state legislative session is down to the wire! All bills, unless necessary to implement the budget, must be passed by tomorrow: Friday, March 7th. If you have not communicated with your state senator in the last week, we encourage you to copy the following message into an email, addyour name and your senator’s name, and send it to your state Senator now. Thanks, FCWPP Legislative Committee Suggested message: Dear Senator _______, Please ask that the following bill be scheduled for a vote on the Senate floor, and vote in support when it comes up: HB 1840: Restrict firearm possession for persons subject to a restraining order When a restraining order includes a finding that the person against whom it has been issued represents a credible threat to the physical safety of an intimate partner or child, HB 1840: 1. Prohibits that person from obtaining or possessing a firearm, other dangerous weapon, or concealed pistol license. 2. Requires that person to surrender any firearm, other dangerous weapon, or concealed pistol license. ALSO, Please ask members of the Rules Committee to pull the following bill to make it eligible for a vote, ask that it be scheduled for a vote on the Senate floor, and vote in support when it comes up: HB 2231: Reduce penalties for mentally ill offenders unable to pay legal financial obligations HB 2231 prevents failure to pay a monthly sum towards legal financial obligations (court costs, fines, etc.) from being considered “willful noncompliance” if the offender is mentally ill, and, accordingly, prohibits penalties for noncompliance in that circumstance.
